Abstract
Background and Purpose: Most of the many studies associated with abdominal respiration were on ventilation, oxygen saturation, function of the diaphragm in healthy people, and on patients with pulmonary diseases. But, studies associated with respiration in patients with neurologic conditions are stÇÇ insufficient despite the fact that they have cardiopulmonary
disorders. The purpose of this study was to determine the movement of the diaphragm during abdominal respiration in hemiparetic patients.

Subjects and Methods: This study was performed on 40 patients (22 males, 18 females) who were admitted in Cheonan Greenphil Hospital from March, 2008 to April 2008. The displacement of diaphragm movement during abdominal respiration was measured in the M-mode.

Results: There was no significant difference in normal respiration of left and right hemiplegic patients, but there was a significant difference during abdominal respiration, showing 17mm in the left hemiplegic group, and 12mm in the right hemiplegic group(JJ
